On a continuously updating digital island, a patrol machine follows a map refreshed each day. A construction closure invalidates its route and redirects it toward the edge of the map, into an egret grove long relegated to the background by the system.
Birds, tree canopies, humid air, and moving water destabilize the scene. Scans open into voids, layers of time overlap, and valid rules begin to cancel one another. The machine stops at a boundary still loading, at the limit of the world it can comprehend.
Based on the coast of Chongming Island, the work moves between physical landscapes, game engine maps, and digital fragments, tracing an island sustained through continuous updates and the repair of its own errors.
